New Baby Card
Need a quick card for the new arrival? This one is cute and quick!
You will need:
*A4 size card in blue or pink
*2 types of contrasting papers in pastel tones (dots on one & stripes on the other always looks nice)
*1 small piece of dark pink or dark blue paper
*1/8" ribbon in salmon or medium blue, cut to 8" long
*5 mini brads
*4 plastic or metal baby pins
*baby themed rubber stamp (1" x 1" design works best)
*blue or pink ink pad
*ruler, pencil, scissors or paper trimmer
*foam pop dots
*paper crimper (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1) Cut a piece of dotted paper to 5" x 3 1/2". Glue to the front of the card.
2) Cut a piece of paper the same shade as A4 card to 3 3/4" x 2".
3) Cut another piece of paper with stripe design to 3 1/2" x 1 1/2". Glue these two pieces of paper together.
4) Starting at the left side of the two pieces of paper you just joined, about 1/4" from the edge, push the brads through the ribbon first and then through the paper. (The brads are sharp enough to go through the ribbon, but it's helpful to punch a very small hole through the paper first so it doesn't bend when the brads go through.) Between each brad, thread a baby pin through the ribbon. Starting from the left edge, place the brads & ribbon at: 1/4", 1", 1 3/4", 2 3/4", & 3 3/4". These don't have to be exact, you can just space them evenly along the edge.
5) Stamp a baby (blue or pink ink looks nice) onto a piece of card the same color as the A4 card. Carefully cut a square around the baby image that is 1 1/4" x 1 1/4". Cut another 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" square in a darker color. Run it through a paper crimper (optional). Place the darker square so it looks like a diamond, then place the baby image on top as a square.
6) Now we have all the pieces made and it's time to put the card together! Put pop dots or foam square on the back of the obling piece of paper with the ribbon and baby pins. The long ends of ribbon can be trimmed and either glued or secured under the pop dots or foam tape. Place about 1/4" down from the top of the card. (You can center it pretty well by eyeing it...handmade cards don't have to be "perfect", they have more charm with our individual handiwork.)
7) Place the baby design right under the oblong piece of paper and glue it in place. The top corner of the design will probably be slightly under the oblong piece. Now all you have to do is add your Congratulations inside, either handwritten or stamped, and you're ready to go!
HINT: Using a corner rounder for the bottom edges of the card add a nice touch.
