How To Make A Greeting Card in 10 Easy Steps!

Do you want to start making handmade greeting cards, and don't know where to start? This is an easy handmade card idea using everyday crafting supplies that won't break the bank! Your friends will appreciate the fact that you made the card instead of going to the store and buying a generic card that is mass produced and costs a bundle. For this handmade greeting card you will need :

*A Paper Cutter (or scissors if you can cut really straight)

*Glue stick (acid-free will not discolor the paper as time goes by)

*1 piece of white card stock 8.5" x 11"

*1 - 5.5" pice of ribbon, or a border sticker

*1 rub-on sentiment

*3 - 4" pieces of ribbon (can match your paper, or contrast, whatever you prefer)

*3 brads

*1 die cut, glitter sticker, or vellum sticker

*2 pieces of 12" x 12" scrapbooking paper with contrasting patterns

*1 greeting card envelope - 5 3/4" x 8 3/4" (if desired)

Handmade Greeting Card Instructions:

#1- Fold the card stock in half lengthwise.

#2- Measure and mark one piece of patterned paper to cover the whole outside of the card, front and back, making sure it is the paper that you want for your main design.

#3- After marking the right size, cut the paper and glue it to the card stock. If the edges are not perfect, just trim it up after glueing.

#4- Cut one piece of contrasting paper to cover the bottom 1/3 of the card (only needs to cover the front of the card), and glue it in place.

#5- Where the two contrasting papers meet 3/4 of the way down your card is where your ribbon or border sticker will go. This will really help pull the look of the card together as well as add some extra interest to your project.

#6- Over the top of this ribbon border is where you will place the shorter ribbons. To prepare the ribbons, fold them in half, and push a brad through your fold to secure. Glue these to the border in a straight line.

#7- Above these ribbons is where the die cut or sticker goes. Be creative here! Depending on the recipient, try a purse, flowers, birthday cake, anything that will look pleasing. There are thousands of choices out there!

#8- For the bottom 1/3 of the card, allign a rub-on saying and adhere using a craft stick.

#9-  For a nice touch, cut the leftover contrasting paper (that you put on the bottom 1/3 of your card) to fit inside your card envelope. Slide inside the envelope and adhere on the top and just under the fold (remember to make sure to keep the envelope adhesive exposed!). Re-bend the flap and you will have an extra-nice touch for a plain envelope!

#10- If you are not sending your envelope through the mail, you may want to add some elements of your card to the front of the envelope. Try some die cuts or stickers that compliment the one you used on your card. You can also add strips of paper to make a matching pattern, or use some of the same ribbons and brads to match your card. Use your imagination! That's the beauty of creativity---you get to do what you want!
