Help! My Scrapbooking Room Is A Mess!
Have you gone into your craft room recently and felt so bewildered by the mess that you do not even want to start on a project? If so, you are not alone. Organization of your materials are a key to letting your creative thoughts run free, instead of being depressed and not even wanting to be creative.
You might be thinking, there is another neat freak telling me to put all my things away like my mother taught me! Well, for one, I am not even close to being a neat freak and I make the biggest mess when I start crafting.
The real key is not to put everything away out of sight, but have things arranged neatly where you can see what you have. A great place to start is to get some shelves for your flat items like paper, craft punches, paper trimmers. You can buy an inexpensive shelf at a secondhand store, or if you are a do-it-yourself kind of person, some simple brackets and flat boards will work very well. It is wonderful to have your craft books and large items organized in such a fashion that you know exactly where to go when you need them.
Another fun idea is to get some pegboard and hooks for your walls. All your favorite tools that are easy to misplace can be hung right there where you can see them. You can hang scissors, embossing or glue guns and many other tools. The great thing about stickers, rub-ons, templates, brads and other similar items are that they come directly from the store with a perfect little hole in the packet just ready to be hung on your wall where you can easily locate them. If there is no hole and the packaging allows, why not just punch a hole yourself? I have clear stamps that come on a sturdy sheet of acetate, just waiting for me to punch a hole in it myself.
Another great item that is becoming popular is a stand with many clips on it to clips all your stickers and other embellishments that are in packages.
For ribbons, an easy solution is a wooden board, 12 inches long and five inches wide, and cut two pieces of small dowel rod ten inches tall. Drill two holes in the board the width of the dowel and with enough space between them for two spools or ribbon to sit side by side. Just glue the dowel rod standing upright into the hole and when the glue is dry, you will have a place to stack 20 spools or more of ribbon.
I hope these ideas will get your craft area cleaned up and allow you to get more crafting done instead of spending time trying to find things you misplaced. If only there was a cure for buying more and more craft supplies...
