Charming Old-Fashioned Girl

handmade greeting card instructions

This lovely old-fashioned girl greeting card is suitable for numerous occasions and easily adaptable just by adding your own phrase to the front. Delicate looking, it will be a delight for any girl (young or old) to receive! It's just great for Birthdays, Thank You's, Easter, Mother's Day or Just Because.

What you will need:

*A4 sized white greeting card

*3 3/4" x 5" patterned paper

*3 3/4 x 1" white card stock

*Old Paper Distress Ink

*4 photo corners (I used Sizzix Sizzlets Photo Corners)

*1 light pink paper rose

*5 small self-adhesive rhinestones (any color- I used pink, purple and white)

*Gel Pen or Rubber stamp phrase, or Rub-on Sentiment (optional)

*Paper trimmer or scissors

*Ruler

*Pencil

*Spray Adhesive for Vellum

*Glue Stick

DIRECTIONS:

1) Cut a piece of patterned paper to 3 3/4" x 5" and glue it to the front of the A4 card (card should be with the fold to your left).

2) Cut a piece of white cardstock  to 3 3/4" long by 1" wide. Gently press one side of the cardstock against the "Old Paper" Distress Ink pad until you have little bits of ink covering here and there...don't overdo this step! Also gently place some of the edges against the ink pad to age the paper a little more. Glue this strip to the front of your card, about 1" from the bottom of the patterned paper.

3) Now, we're ready to use an image of an old-fashioned girl (you can use our picture too, just right click on the image at the bottom of this page, and choose "Save Picture As", and then print on vellum paper. (If you don't like the opaque quality of vellum, it will work just as well on white or beige cardstock.) If it's too big, it can be resized in your Paint program if you don't have another picture editing program. (For information on how to use Paint, click here.)

This image should be resized to 2 1/2" x 4", or if it's a little bigger than that, just trim it down a little. There's plenty of room for trimming since this picture has a lot of empty space around it. Spray adhesive to the back of the vellum, and gently place the image on your card, centering it with the top aligned with the patterned paper. (There should be a small part of the picture over the top of the aged paper strip.)

4) Take the 5 small self-adhesive rhinestones, and place them in a slight curve (like a frowny face) to form a headband across the hair, starting above the curls on the left. You can add more than 5 or fewer than 5 to suit your own taste, or maybe come up with a really elaborate princess-style crown if you're really creative!

5) Place the light pink paper rose right on top of the flower that the girl is holding in the picture.

6) For this next step, I used Sizzix Sizzlets Photo Corners, but you can use any photo corner that you prefer. Instead of using the whole photo corner, I took out the flower pattern from the middle of the die cut to add to the elegant look of this card.  Now, use a glue stick to adhere the photo corners to the edges of the image. (Since the photo corners I used are so delicate, I had a lot of trouble getting them to stick to the photo, and not to me!, so I gently placed the photo corners where I wanted them and used a pencil eraser to push them to the right position and get myself unstuck.) I used a gel pen color similar to the color of the patterned paper to put centers in the flowers and pull the look of the card together.

7) That was fun and easy, wasn't it! To personalize this card, just use a gel pen, rubber stamp greeting or a rub-on sentiment to finish this card.
